Samsung Mobile: recruitment and acquisitions to stay ahead

Status as market leader Samsung smartphone has been confirmed in the first quarter of 2012 but the Korean group knows that maintaining its dominance is not easy and that the differentiation by the hardware is not enough if it is not accompanied strong developments of the interface.

The announcement of the Galaxy S III, its latest high-end smartphone, has also largely focused on this aspect by presenting close integration between hardware and software for the device adapts to the needs of the user, and not vice versa.

This renewed interest in the software side is probably due to the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google and uncertainty over access to the Android platform. The group of Mountain View has always been reassuring statements on this point but it would be unwise for Samsung not to allow a way out in case of reversal of positions or in the event that Android would be in difficulty in the multiple trials.

In addition, Samsung will be tempted to follow a model of control of both hardware and software, as practiced by Apple or RIM, or until recently Nokia, which has the advantage of fine tuning these two facets to produce devices with unique qualities, on which it is possible to tightly integrate services.

In a way, it is already implementing this strategy with its platform Bada OS. The company remains a policy of openness in mobile platform. Historically, it is present on most mobile OS market.

Very hard on equipment, Samsung also now wants to be a major player in mobile software ... even to distance itself from its partners at the time.
